Knowing When it's Time to Take a Break

Can we get a little personal? I have been so bogged down with work lately that it's beginning to make me loose my cool. I'm typically not the type to show when I'm at my breaking point. I don't know if it's that I think it's a sign of weakness or what, but I am the type who will internalize all of my stress and let it build and build until I just lose it. Not my best attribute, I know.

I'm tired and I need a break. So I took one yesterday. I'm proud of myself for knowing when I need to make time for myself to relax. So yesterday, Chris took Gatsby to her vet checkup for me in the morning and went into work on a project at the office for a few hours. I had the entire morning and afternoon to myself! 

Even though it was a beautiful 80 degree day outside...I stayed in my PJ's, snuggled under my favorite blanket, put on my favorite movie and just relaxed. I spent time making myself a fancy lunch (something I used to love doing but don't have the time for lately). Took a bubble bath complete with candles. Soothed my overwhelmingly dark under eye circles with cucumbers. And even painted my nails. It was perfect.

By the time the Hubs returned I was back to being his wife and not some crazy sleep deprived stranger. A beautiful day wasted? No. A beautiful day gained. Filled with relaxation and renewed strength.

Five on Friday!

Hi guys!! I am so grateful that Friday is finally here! 

Over the weekend we tried a new spot in the Orange Circle called Provisions Market. We stopped in for some beer tasting and an awesome meat and cheese tray. They have tons of fancy beers like Belgians, IPA's, and Sours. 

Aside from the beer they have tons of good eats like meat and cheese platters that you can customize with their full service deli counter, sandwiches, and other cool things like smoked marlin. 

I think that all of my weekend shenanigans have finally caught up to me and I now have a nasty cold. Total bummer. Looks like this weekend I'll be drinking a lot of tea and resting up. Sounds good to me! 

I've been creepily stalking the Lobsta Truck on Facebook just waiting for them to be in my hood and BAM my wish was granted! I've been dying to get my hands on one of their famous lobster rolls and they were worth the wait! Oh and the chowder?...AMAZING!

I've been having some really rough days at work lately so the Hubs packed me lunch the other day and I was pleasantly surprised by this...

Love him! 

I can't wait to make plans to beautify my new antiquing find...

I'm thinking of painting my new antler white with gold tips or gold with sequined tips. After the Hubs tried to talk me out of my purchase and told me how silly it is to paint an antler (hes clearly out of touch with the trends)...he moved my antler to be proudly displayed on the coffee table and said I should buy another one to paint...

Looks like he had a change of heart!

Perfect Garlic Cheese Bread

Sorry guys no meal plan this week! The Hubs & I are really slacking on in the kitchen department this week since we've been so busy. We finally got around to going to the grocery store last night for some healthy meals and snacks. Enjoy this yummy garlic bread recipe for now! 

An easy recipe for the perfect garlic cheese bread. 

There are lots of ways to enjoy garlic bread. With pasta. Soup. Stew. As a sandwich base. As a pizza. Heck, you can even eat it by itself. In fact, I firmly believe that garlic bread is a food group {don't judge!}

There are equally a ton of ways to prepare garlic bread. Today I'm going to share with you how to make my version of the perfect garlic bread. 

It's pretty simple really. Start with a good crusty loaf of bread. I like to use the kind from Trader Joe's that is par baked. Cut that baby in half lengthwise and top with copious amounts of melted butter, fresh parsley and garlic. Then bake to perfection! 

Perfect Garlic Bread


Loaf of crusty bread
1/2 stick unsalted butter
2 tablespoons olive oil
2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped
4 cloves garlic, chopped
Mozzarella cheese {however much you prefer}


Preheat the oven to 425 degrees. Cut the loaf of bread in half lengthwise and place on a baking sheet. In a small sauté pan on medium low heat, melt the butter and add the olive oil. This keeps the butter from browning. Once melted, add the garlic and cook until the garlic softens. Stir frequently to keep the garlic and butter from browning. Once the garlic is soft, add the parsley and stir for one to two minutes. 

Pour the butter mixture all over the halved loaves. Top with shredded mozzarella cheese. Bake for 10 minutes at 425 degrees. Then broil for 2 additional minutes. 

Allow the bread to cool slightly then cut into pieces. 

And there you have it...perfection!

Five on Friday

Here are my top five moments of the week!

I'm so excited that I finally got around to sharing a new outfit post with you! This is something that I hope to get in the habit of doing much more often...I just need to work on bribing my photographer (aka the Hubs) to help me out with the photos!

We made the most amazing garlic bread Wednesday night to have alongside some minestrone soup. It was the shiz and then some!! I'll be sharing the recipe next week since I received a few requests on Instagram!

I'm loving the rain that started yesterday and is scheduled to keep on going throughout the weekend. Some of you may think I'm crazy but I absolutely love a good rainy day!

We recently became in-network with a major insurance company at work. A big accomplishment for us! Well, after teaching myself the world of insurance billing...we received our first check! I'm so proud!!

The Hubs and I got out for a little Happy Hour after work last night which was really nice! He has the day off to himself tomorrow (lucky duck!) I'm hoping that he has a nice relaxing day and then on to the weekend!!

Chambray & Colored Jeggings

Happy Hump Day! As promised, I think it's finally time for another outfit post on this blog!

It was such a gorgeous day that my trusty photographer (Hubs) got some shots in two different locations. 

Lately this chambray shirt + jeggings of any sort + boots has been my go-to weekend uniform.  I love the look and feel of a good chambray shirt. I especially love the stud details on this one. And jeggings...I could talk about my love for jeggings for hours. They're the perfect combination between jeans and leggings...hence jeggings. Love them! What's more to love? Colored jeggings! Brilliant idea. I love the forest green color of these ones.

Weekend Recap + This Weeks Meal Plan

Meal planning post on a Tuesday?! Looks like someone's slacking! This past weekend was amazing and I spent every minute I could avoiding my to-do list.

Our clean eating basically went out the window...but that seems to be the norm on the weekends! We found a new place called Capriotti's with cheesesteaks and hoagies that made me miss home. 

We also were really bad and went to our new favorite Jerry's Dogs. I stuck with my favorite the Chicago dog and the Hubs tried a pastrami dog. Both we're equally delicious! 

On Saturday we decided to explore downtown San Juan Capistrano. We stopped at a cute little winery called Hamilton Oaks. 

The winery is inside a 90+ year old house that we were convinced was haunted! The grounds outside we're just gorgeous. 

After that we headed down to the train depot. 

Behind the train tracks was the most quaint street filled with mom 'n pop cafés. We scoped out a couple to try next time. Then we stopped for an appetizer at a little Italian place. We tried the bacon wrapped stuffed dates. One word...bomb! 

We walked around more before making our last stop at Five Vines wine bar. This place was the perfect little spot to end the night! The bar was lit with candles and twinkle lights, complete with live music, and had a ton of wine and beers to choose from. My kind of place! 

Not to mention their cheese and sausage boards. So good! 

Sunday we explored the OC Great Park garden. 

They also had a lovely chicken coop. 

Then we went down to my favorite beach in Laguna. 

The waves were gorgeous and the weather was perfect! We stopped at our favorite restaurant The Cliff for an early dinner including fresh oysters. 

I think we squeezed just about every ounce of goodness we could into those two days! Like I said I didn't do too much planning for this week and did more of a what do we have in the fridge type of plan, but at least it's something!

Five on Friday

Here are my top 5 moments of the week!

Last weekend we got to get outside and enjoy the beautiful weather at the beach! I love being so close to the beach again. There's something so calming about putting your toes in the sand and hearing the waves crash. Nothing beats free therapy!

We've been doing pretty well so far with sticking to our week of #cleaneats. Prepping all of our snacks and lunches for the week ahead helped a lot and I am definitely planning to make this a new routine. 
I took advantage of the beautiful weather and had the Hubs take some outfit photos for me over the weekend. Can't wait to share an outfit post with you next week! 

So many of our friends and family are getting married this year and we can't wait to celebrate with them! We decided to get extra sappy and pull out our wedding video to watch. 

I love this man so much! 

I got out for a much needed girls night with my co-workers and had a great time! I'm so thankful that we all truly love and support each other.
